Sea Bright Police Veteran Admits Guilt in Stalking Ex and Slashing Tires Case

Erich A. Bennett, a 20-year member of the Sea Bright Police Department, admitted to stalking his ex-girlfriend on September 6, 2023. Destroying her home’s surveillance cameras, slashing the tyres of her car, and threatening to hurt her physically.

Prior to splitting up in October 2022, the victim and Bennett had been dating for nearly a year. After the breakup, Bennett started to follow the victim. He keyed her car, cut the tyres on her car, and turned off the security cameras on her house. He also passed by her house while threatening to hurt her physically. both directly and via a phoney social media account.

Late in January 2023, Bennett was taken into custody and accused of stealing a computer. Along with causing malicious mischief, obstructing an arrest, and stalking. On September 6, he entered a plea of guilty to all charges. On November 3, 2023, he is expected to receive his punishment.

Bennett faces a five-year prison term, according to the state. Bennett also agreed to give up his privately owned firearms as part of the plea deal. Accept a long-term restraining order preventing him from speaking to the victim. Pay almost $4,800 in reparation as well.
