Following a Change.org petition launched last year, a Denver restaurant owner is urging Congress to pass legislation that would provide immediate payments of $2,000 to adults and $1,000 to children, in addition to regular payments for as long as the crisis lasts. According to Stephanie Bonin, the petition’s creator, layoffs, furloughs, self-employed individuals, and employees with reduced hours will struggle to pay their rent and put food on the table if this issue is not addressed.

Bonin’s petition was ranked as one of the top ten petitions that changed 2020 by Change.org because of the amount of support it had.
On March 30, 21 senators wrote to President Biden in support of recurring stimulus payments, noting that the IRS’s $1,400 payment will not be enough to keep people from starving.
