Many people have signed a petition calling for $2,000 monthly stimulus checks to be distributed by the federal government. An online petition that started in 2020 calling for $2,000 monthly stimulus checks for every American during the pandemic has just a few thousand signatures short of its goal of three million, according to Newsweek.

Following a Change.org petition launched last year, a Denver restaurant owner is urging Congress to pass legislation that would provide immediate payments of $2,000 to adults and $1,000 to children, in addition to regular payments for as long as the crisis lasts. According to Stephanie Bonin, the petition’s creator, layoffs, furloughs, self-employed individuals, and employees with reduced hours will struggle to pay their rent and put food on the table if this issue is not addressed.
Some people received $1,400 in stimulus funds from the federal government in March 2020. According to FOX Baltimore, hundreds of millions of dollars have been distributed directly to the American people through the American Rescue Plan, which was signed into law by President Joe Biden in March. In a short period, most Americans received a $1,400 payment, which was made up of two payments of $1,200 and $600 each.

According to Forbes, everyone must have used up all the stimulus money by now. The fourth round of stimulus checks hasn’t been announced yet, so anyone hoping to learn more about that will be let down. The petition shows that the public is on board with regular stimulus checks, not just one round. Bonin’s petition was ranked as one of the top ten petitions that changed 2020 by Change.org because of the amount of support it had.
On March 30, 21 senators wrote to President Biden in support of recurring stimulus payments, noting that the IRS’s $1,400 payment will not be enough to keep people from starving. A separate effort from Democrats in January called for $2,000 monthly payments for the duration of the pandemic to be paid. Also, some states across the country are currently implementing their versions of stimulus checks.
