The Alert Ready website states, “Civil emergencies occur when people are disrupted or require varying degrees of support, protection, or attention.”Recognized public authorities issue national, provincial/territorial, and local emergency notifications. They are intended to alert the public of impending threats to life or property. So far in 2020, the National Alert Ready System has issued 173 alerts, 26 of which have been for Civil Emergencies.

Civil Emergencies Include the Following:

  • Release of hazardous materials

Notification:

  • Read/listen to the warning
  • Follow the instructions.
  • Do not attempt to visit the impacted region.
  • If you are in a hazardous zone, notify loved ones that you are safe.

Even in this scenario, following directions is critical to ensuring the safety of everyone in the vicinity. To get Alert Ready emergency notifications on your phone, it must be turned on and linked to an LTE network. If your phone is in quiet mode, a notice will appear on your screen, but no sound will be made to advise you of an approaching alert.
