Winter Storm Elliott might be the upcoming major storm and could become a bomb cyclone over the Great Lakes this week and making the conditions worse in the Midwest as well as high winds on the East Coast, and all this might happened during the Christmas holiday weekend. This emerging storm can also make the bitterly cold air to much of the country mostly in the southern area like Texas, Florida and the Gulf Coast.
All advisories and warnings are already issued about this winter storm by National Weather Service. The alerts are sent to cities like St. Louis, Indianapolis, Des Mines, Omaha Minneapolis- St. Paul, and Chicago. The Blizzard advisories were issued for the upper part of the Midwest as well shown below by the pink on the map.
Timing:
This strome already arrives in the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies. If we talk about the Seattle metro area, several inches of snow is expected there, most probably in the north of downtown. we can also expect slippery, snow-covered travel in the metro area.
Wednesday
The strength of the snow might be heavy, accompanied strong and it covered mostly the plain area southward. It affects the Plains and upper Midwest, so travel will become dangerous in these areas. There are some chances to freezing rain and snow could develop at night in western North Carolina to western Virginia also in eastern West Virginia.
Thursday
The storm will become more intense in the Midwest area and the more chances to snow due to the arctic front racing through. Some very strong winds will spread to the western Great Lakes, Mississippi Valley and nearby areas and also make conditions more blizzards in near areas.
Friday
The storm will reach its peak intensity with high winds, heavy snow and potential blizzard conditions in parts of the Great Lakes, from Wisconsin and Illinois to parts of Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
Expectations about Snow:
Weather services are confident that Elliott will be a deep storm because there is remain still uncertainty on how to track the exact low-pressure system for several days. All these situations indicate the snowfall forecasts are still uncertain. If we talk about the potential, this can dump 6 inches or more snowfall in parts of the Midwest from Minnesota, Indiana, Michigan Wisconsin and eastern, Illinois.
