Taylor Heinicke Football career in Washington Football Team / Commanders
On December 8, 2020, Taylor joined the Washington football team for practice. Prior to this, Taylor started playing football while completing his engineering degree at Old Dominion. Taylor was promoted on 9 December 2020.
Taylor then returned to play for his team in Week 16 against the Carolina Panthers after quarterback Dwayne Haskins was benched in the 4th quarter. Taylor completed 12 of 19 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown in the 20–13 loss.
In February 2021, Taylor signed with the team as a restricted free agent to a $4.75 million contract. Taylor relieved Ryan Fitzpatrick in the season-opener against the Los Angeles Chargers, who was sidelined with a hip injury. After this, Taylor got good recognition as a starter. In the 2022 season, Taylor was positioned behind Carson Wentz, but after Carson Wentz fractured his finger, Taylor was placed as a quarterback.
