Rintaro Tsumugi, a sturdy and reserved second-year student at Chidori High School, is the main character of this story. He meets Kaoruko Wakuri, a customer who arrives when Rintaro helps at his father’s cake shop, and he starts to feel comfortable being around her. However, Kaoruko attends Kikyo Girls’ Highschool, which doesn’t like their neighbour’s high school, so they are so close yet far apart.

Kaoruko and Rintaro are seated on a bench when the chapter picks off where the last one left off. After telling her how he feels, Rintaro begins to feel selfish, but Kaoruko cuts him off to assure him that he is not being selfish. Although they both had different times in mind, she talked about the day they had first met. She claims that she first met him long before Rintaro can recall, and that day, he saved her. However, when Rintaro heard this, he was taken aback.
She claimed she became a frequent customer of his father’s cake shop as a result of the experience because she remembered everything so vividly. Then she related to him the incident when, on a snowy day, she had forgotten to pack her scarf and umbrella and had ended herself in that cake shop by accident. She had been through some trying times and had no appetite, as she admitted, but the store’s hospitable atmosphere had her inside before she ever realized it.
There was only Rintaro doing any work at all. She ordered a cake and bit into it, feeling warm as she had never tasted anything. Tears began to fall from her eyes as Rintaro arrived to console her. When Rintaro was questioned about that day, he had no memories.
He made an effort to recall, but he failed. He agreed with Kaoruko that it was better for her that way, and she knew he would have done the same for another girl in her place, but his kindness saved her that day.
She even said that he had been incredibly kind to her at the time since it had made her happy, which hurts because he appeared to find it natural. She admits that where they did meet had nothing to do with education at the end of the chapter after remembering what he told her about the conflict between their high schools. When she finally said she loved him and wanted to go out with him, he gave her the courage and confidence to do so. When Rintaro heard this, he was surprised.
