As rumors circulated that Russia intended to install a pro-Kremlin leader in Ukraine, President Joe Biden convened a meeting of his national security team on Saturday.
Biden Met National Security
In a recently published article in FOX News, United States President Joe Biden and his aides met in Camp David, Maryland, on Saturday to address Russia’s continued aggression toward Ukraine. This happened after reports circulated about the plan of Russia.
According to the White House, if Russia continues to attack Ukraine, the United States and its allies and partners would inflict fast and harsh repercussions on Russia. Meanwhile, the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCO) of the United Kingdom said earlier this week that it received intelligence indicating that the Russian scheme was in the works.
A spokesperson for the British agency said “We have information that indicates the Russian Government is looking to install a pro-Russian leader in Kyiv as it considers whether to invade and occupy Ukraine.”
Potential Candidate of Russian Government
The spokeswoman stated that Yevhen Murayev, a former Ukrainian Member of Parliament, was being evaluated as a possible candidate. Murayev is the leader of Nashi, a minor pro-Russian political party with no representatives in Ukraine’s parliament at now, according to a report published in ABC17.
The UK government claimed that their allegation was based on an intelligence assessment, but it gave no proof to back it up. British anti-tank weaponry has been shipped to Ukraine as part of the country’s defense against a possible Russian invasion. Furthermore, a U.S. official replied to the news on Russia and Ukraine.
Emily Horne, a spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council, said that this kind of Russia’s plan is very concerning considering the present tensions which can be described as a cold war. Needless to say, The U.S. efforts to unite European partners in the fight against Russian aggression in Ukraine have intensified recently.
