Israel’s military reported on Wednesday that 90 Hamas fighters were killed and 160 captured during an assault on Gaza’s Al Shifa hospital, a claim the terrorist group denied, claiming that those slain were injured patients and displaced people within the facility.
All about Israel raid in hospital
Al Shifa, the Gaza Strip’s largest hospital before to the war, is currently one of the few remaining medical facilities. That is even partially operational in the territory’s north and had previously housed displaced civilians.
“Over the past day, the troops have eliminated terrorists and located weapons in the hospital area, while preventing harm to civilians, patients, medical teams, and medical equipment,” the Defense Department said in a statement.
The Israeli raid on the hospital began in the early hours of Monday. The military said it sent in special forces backed up by troops and tanks after receiving intelligence that the hospital was once again being exploited by gunmen.
When Israeli troops first attacked the Al Shifa hospital in November, they faced widespread condemnation. The military discovered tunnels that they believed Hamas had utilized as command and control centers. Hamas and medical personnel deny that the facility is utilized for military operations or to house fighters.
