Shevchenko began her professional mixed martial arts journey at the age of just 15 on April 21, 2003, in the Kyrgyz Federation of Kulatu. She faced another newcomer, Eliza Aidaralieva, and won the fight with a TKO in the second round.
Her UFC debut came unexpectedly when she replaced Germaine de Randamie to fight Sarah Kaufman at UFC on Fox 17. Shevchenko emerged victorious with a split decision (28–29, 29–28 and 29–28). In September 2017, she announced her intention to compete in the 125-pound flyweight division.
On September 20, 2018, it was revealed that Shevchenko would challenge Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the vacant UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship on December 8, 2018, at UFC 231.
In addition to her fighting career, Valentina Shevchenko also appeared in the Netflix sports film “Bruised” alongside Halle Berry.
