Malcolm Alker played with the Salford Red Devils throughout his whole playing career. He was a member of the team for 13 years until an injury caused him to retire.

“It is with huge sadness that Salford Red Devils confirm the passing of former Salford captain, Malcolm Alker,” stated a statement released by Salford this afternoon. The hooker, who was only 21 when he was first chosen captain in 2000, went on to be Salford’s permanent captain.

Malcolm Alker played with the Salford Red Devils throughout his whole playing career.

In addition to making one appearance for Lancashire and winning two caps for England, he made over 360 games for Salford and became the club’s captain at the age of 21.

“Alker played with Salford for his whole professional career, making 292 games between 1997 and 2010.

“The hooker, who was only 21 years old when he was first chosen captain in 2000, went on to be Salford’s permanent captain.

“In addition to playing for Lancashire in 2002, he finally became well-known internationally for his Salford exploits in the 2000s, earning him a call-up and two England shirts.

“All our thoughts are with Malcolm’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

Alker disclosed his use of performance-enhancing and recreational drugs during his career in his autobiography, “The Devil Within,” written after he retired.

He was sentenced to four years in prison in 2018 for two armed robberies he carried out in Wigan at a Tesco Express and a KFC restaurant while brandishing a machete.
