After spending his entire first season as a rookie on the Cowboys’ practice squad, Amendola later spent part of the 2009 season on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad before being signed by the St. Louis Rams. He went on to play actively for the Rams for four seasons.
After that, he spent the next five seasons with the New England Patriots, appearing in three Super Bowls and winning two. Over the final four seasons of his career, he spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, and Houston Texans.
On September 7, 2021, Amendola signed a one-year deal with the Texans worth $2.5 million. Unfortunately, he landed on injured reserve on December 4, 2021, but he returned on December 25. Throughout the 2021 season, Amendola made 24 receptions, gained 248 receiving yards, and scored three receiving touchdowns in eight games.
