Johnson was a head football coach in college from 1979 to 1988 and then for nine seasons in the NFL. He made history by becoming the first head football coach to win both a college football national championship and a Super Bowl. He got a college championship with Miami and a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys.
Johnson began his career as the head football coach at Oklahoma State. Later, in 1984, he became the head football coach at Miami and led the team to victory in the 1988 Orange Bowl. His success in college football landed him the job as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in 1989. There, he played a big role in turning the team around and making them winners.
After taking a two-year break from football, Johnson returned in 1996 to coach the Miami Dolphins. He remained with them until he retired after the 1999 season. Since leaving coaching, Johnson has been on TV as an analyst for Fox Sports and one of the main commentators on Fox NFL Sunday.
In recognition of his achievements, Johnson was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2012, the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020, and the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor in 2023.
