In 2017, when CeeDee Lamb was starting at Oklahoma, he caught a pass from quarterback Baker Mayfield, who later won the Heisman Trophy. Lamb played all 14 games and performed really well, making 46 catches (second among freshmen) for 807 yards (a school freshman record) and seven touchdowns (tying another school freshman record). One game against Texas Tech was particularly memorable, where he set school freshman single-game records with nine catches for 147 yards and two touchdowns. ESPN also gave him Freshman All-American honors.
Then, in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected Lamb as the 17th overall pick in the first round. He was the third wide receiver selected, following Henry Ruggs (Las Vegas Raiders, 12th overall) and Jerry Jeudy (Denver Broncos, 15th overall). On July 23, 2020, Lamb signed a 4-year, $14.01 million contract with the Cowboys, which included a $7.7 million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option.
In his first year in the NFL, Lamb had some notable moments. In Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers, he had 11 catches for 150 yards and two touchdowns. In Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he had seven catches for 126 yards. In the next game against the Eagles, he performed even better with ten catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns in a 40–34 victory.
Following the Cowboys’ Week 10 win against the New York Giants, Lamb made history by becoming the first player in NFL history to have at least 10 catches for over 150 yards in three consecutive games. In Week 17 against the Detroit Lions, he had an amazing game with 13 catches and 227 receiving yards, breaking Michael Irvin’s Cowboys franchise records for receptions and receiving yards in a season.
