Is Kayla Onderko still alive? What happened to Kayla Onderko of Erie, Pennsylvania?

Kayla Onderko tragically passed away on December 10, 2023 in a car accident. She died at the age of 25. Memphis police confirmed that Kayla’s death was the result of a car crash on Interstate 40. She was traveling with her stepfather, Julius Weaver, when their car collided with a semi-truck around 4 a.m. on Dec 10.

Kayla and Julius were pronounced dead at the scene. Police are investigating the accident, but the details of the circumstances and the identity of the other driver have not been released.

Kayla is survived by her mother, Brooke Bailey; her father, Albert Onderko Jr.; and her stepfather, Julius Weaver. She has siblings named Albert III, Alyssa, Alexis, Alana, and Julius Junior. Her grandparents include June Thorley, Jerry Burns, Joe Onderko, Anna DeBolt, her aunts Doris Bechtel and Deborah Ginkel, and many other relatives and friends.

Kayla Onderko of Erie, Pennsylvania, struggled with health issues from an early age. The woman, who was born on August 16, 2005, was diagnosed with metachromatic leukodystrophy, a rare genetic disease of the nervous system. This condition made her simple tasks difficult for Kayla. Unfortunately, there is no way to treat metachromatic leukodystrophy.

Sadly, Kayla passed away from this disease in June 2009 when she was 3 years old. Her short life was marked by the love and care of her parents, Emily Matson and Ryan Onderko. The Onderko family of Erie was deeply saddened by Kayla’s untimely death. These difficult times have been made worse by the recent death of Kayla’s mother, Emily Matson, by suicide, casting a shadow of grief on her family.
