Change.org Petition

Several months after the launch of a Change.org petition last year, a Denver restaurant owner is urging Congress to pass legislation that would provide immediate payments of $2,000 for adults and $1,000 for children, in addition to regular payments for as long as the crisis continues. According to petition creator Stephanie Bonin, employees who are laid off or furloughed, as well as self-employed individuals and those working fewer hours, will struggle to pay their rent and put food on the table if this issue is not addressed.

In March 2020, the federal government granted a few individuals $1,400 in stimulus funds. According to FOX Baltimore, President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law in March, and hundreds of millions of dollars have been distributed directly to Americans as a result. The majority of Americans received a $1,400 payment in a short period, divided into two payments of $1,200 and $600 each.

Lawmakers Expressed Support

By now, according to Forbes, everyone should have used up all of the stimulus funds available to them. It has not yet been announced when the fourth round of stimulus checks will occur, so anyone hoping to learn more about it will be disappointed. The petition demonstrates that the general public supports regular stimulus checks rather than a single round of stimulus checks. Because of Bonin’s petition’s overwhelming support, Change.org named it one of the top ten petitions in 2020.

In a letter to President Biden dated March 30, 21 senators expressed support for recurring stimulus payments, noting that the Internal Revenue Service’s $1,400 payment will not be sufficient to keep people from going hungry. Another Democratic initiative from January called for $2,000 monthly payments to be made for the duration of the pandemic. In addition, some states across the country are currently implementing their own versions of stimulus checks.
