Petition For Monthly $2,000
A Denver restaurant owner started a Change.org petition last year asking Congress to pass legislation providing immediate payments of $2,000 for adults and $1,000 for children, as well as regular checks for the duration of the crisis. Stephanie Bonin, the one who started the petition, stated that layoffs, furloughs, self-employed, and employees with reduced hours would struggle to pay their rent and put food on the table unless this matter is addressed.
Back in March 2020, the federal government gave $1,400 in stimulus funds to those who were eligible. During his first nine months in office, Trump issued two stimulus checks totaling $1,200 and $600, respectively. According to Forbes, everyone may have exhausted all of the stimulus funds in the third round of checks. Whoever wants to know if and when the fourth round of stimulus checks will be handed out will be disappointed.

Goal Of 3 Million
New 29,000 signatories joined the petition in the last month and 5,000 in the previous week, bringing its total to 2,956,600 as of Saturday. As per Newsweek, if it reaches its goal of 3 million signatures, it will become one of Change.org’s most popular petitions. Over 100,000 new supporters a week were signing up during the COVID-19 surge in the summer because of the worsening economic impact of the pandemic.
According to Business Insider, the petition shows widespread support for not just one round of stimulus checks but regular checks in the future. Change.org ranked Bonin’s petition as one of the top ten that changed 2020 because of the amount of support it received.
