On Thursday evening, President Joe Biden stirred up a controversy when he confirmed during the CNN Town Hall that he is committed to protecting Taiwan in the event of an attack, presumably from China.
And on Sunday, a Chinese-controlled state media blasted the administration of Biden and stated that the current U.S. government is the “most incapable and degenerate” in U.S. History.

CNN Town Hall Remarks
According to Newsweek, that remark of Biden would mark an end to decades of strategic ambiguity. This approach was neither confirmed nor denied its willingness to back Taipei against Beijing by Washington.
Shortly after, the White House clarified Biden’s remarks and had stated that the administration’s position remains unchanged from the policy adopted in 1979 when the U.S. established a relationship with China.
A spokesperson said that the U.S. defense relationship with Taiwan is guided by the Taiwan Relations Act. They will uphold the commitment under the act and will continue to support Taiwan’s self-defense and continue to oppose any unilateral changes to the status quo.

Chinese-Controlled Media Blast Biden
This did not escape China’s eyes. On Sunday, according to Global Times, where an article was published under the ruling Chinese Communist Party, the US’ national strength has greatly lost its relative advantage. Hence, the cards of trade and human rights Washington plays to counter China have no effect at all.
“The US is challenging the commonsense perceptions of the international community while pretending to be earnest and unbiased. This is the ultimate shamelessness. If it wants to pick on China, it should at least find a good excuse” as stated in the statement.
The published article concluded by saying that if the U.S. makes waves, it would lead to deep divisions in the UN and will paralyze the execution power of the UN in many aspects. The U.S. will become a historic sinner that further undermines world unity. And that no matter how badly it tries, Taiwan will never be able to enter the UN.
“The bigger the farce the US makes, the more disgraceful it is.”
