In a published article in SELF, Salmonella infection symptoms include diarrhea, stomach pains, and fever, which commonly appear six hours to six days after consuming infected food. In most cases, the infection goes away on its own within a week. However, a salmonella infection may occasionally turn more serious. Salmonella symptoms are more severe in children under the age of five, persons over the age of 65, and those with compromised immune systems.
Needless to say, the CDC warned residents in the mentioned states to throw away these onions. The agency also urged everyone not to buy and eat the affected onions most especially those that do not have packaging.
