An Illinois Woman Shots a Man When He Refused To Kiss Her

A kiss has a broad meaning depending on cultural connotations. It is commonly used as a greeting in some countries, while some countries consider kissing a sacred act meant to be shared with someone special, someone that a person can spend their life with. A kiss is a sign of love, desire, or reverence, but unfortunately, it’s not the case here.

A Deadly Kiss Refusal

The Illinois woman, age 28, was later identified as Claudia Resendiz-Florez, a mother of three, shot a man when he refused to kiss her. Resendiz-Florez had just moved in with James P. Jones and his girlfriend in an apartment complex in the northwest suburb at the Preserve Woodfield at 4700 Arbor Drive.

According to Courtney Smallwood, an assistant public defender, Claudia Resendiz-Florez was married but separated from his husband, and she is the sole caretaker of her three young children.

On a Thursday evening, the three people were drinking together when suddenly Resendiz-Florez asked the man, Jones, for a kiss which he refused, then turned towards his girlfriend and shared a kiss.

Then the woman, Resendiz-Florez, asked the girlfriend of Jones for a kiss too which she also refused that made her attitude completely changed according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Shot On The Chest

For the second time, she demanded Jones for a kiss that he again refused, resulting in Resendiz-Florez feeling infuriated and reaching out for a gun tucked between cushions that belonged to Jones.

According to Fox News, the prosecutors had said that Jones tried to lower the gun when he noticed that she had already pulled off the safety. However, she raised her arms and ended up shooting him once in the chest, ultimately killing him.

The girlfriend of Jones was the one who called 911, and when authorities arrived, they had found the handgun that was used in the living room.

Claudia Resendiz-Florez was identified as the suspect, and she admitted to shooting James P. Jones and was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. According to Chicago Sun-Times, the judge ordered Claudia Resendiz-Florez held without bail.
