Dan McCafferty was born in the Scottish town of Dunfermline. He became a founding member of Nazareth in 1968, influenced by performers such as Little Richard, Elvis Presley, and Otis Redding. Until 2014, he appeared on Nazareth’s albums and toured with them for 45 years. He co-wrote some of Nazareth’s biggest singles, including “Broken Down Angel” and “Bad Bad Boy.” He put out three solo albums.

On August 29, 2013, the band announced McCafferty’s retirement from touring due to health concerns. In an interview with UK music, he expounded on the nature of his health concerns and the state of his predicament. He maintained that he had not had a stroke, as reported in the news. He said that his chronic obstructive pulmonary illness had “worsened in recent years,” forcing him to leave the stage in Switzerland after only three songs, stating, “You don’t know when it’s going to come on.”
Successful Career of Dan McCafferty:
Despite McCafferty’s retirement, Nazareth fans may still hear his voice on their 2014 Rock ‘n’ Roll Telephone album. The singer also stated that he plans to make new music with Nazareth or as a solo artist. He elaborated: “Going into a studio to sing is not the same as performing live. I could always produce another record, but getting up for an hour and three-quarters and having people spend money to see me is something I can’t do.” Near the end of the interview, McCafferty extended gratitude to his followers, adding that he continues to perform live all over the world and record on occasion.
