Dr. Anthony Fauci released a statement on Sunday that before vaccinated Americans can attend indoor public gatherings without masks, COVID-19 cases would need to go way down. According to current CDC standards, fully vaccinated Americans must wear masks indoors if they are in a significant or high-risk transmission area.
On CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, Fauci stated the virus was still spreading too quickly across the country to consider shifting the mask-wearing mandate. ‘The seven-day average is around 95,000 on daily cases, which is still far too high, said the White House’s main medical adviser.
Recorded Cases Were Still High
“We want to get way, way down to… I mean, I’d like to see it far below 10,000 and even much lower than that,” Fauci said when asked at what point the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) would lift requirements on wearing interior masks for vaccinated individuals. ‘When you’re at 95,000 [cases per day], that’s still a circumstance where you have a significant degree of dynamic viral circulation in the community,’ he noted.

According to the most recent data, more than 96% at present is in an area of ‘substantial’ and ‘high’ transmission, according to the New York Post. Despite the CDC’s advice, the federal government only requires masks to be worn on public transportation and in transportation hubs such as airports and bus stations. In response to the Delta variant threat, the CDC revised its mask-wearing recommendations in late July.
From May 13 until the new instructions were issued on July 27, vaccinated Americans were told it was allowed to avoid wearing a mask indoors. CDC Urged Universal Indoor Masking
Regardless of vaccination status, the CDC continues to urge universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to schools. On the same broadcast on Sunday, Fauci encouraged American children to go trick-or-treating for Halloween. Fauci noted that it would be a moment that children enjoy even though it is a critical moment for them.
White House COVID-19 adviser stated that he believes the mortality rate will continue to decline this winter as the Delta surge subsides, raising hopes that the virus is finally on the decline. Despite previously stating that it was too soon to determine if Americans may gather for Christmas, Fauci recently advised vaccinated persons to do so.
