68-Year-Old Man Allegedly Shots A Woman Twice In The Head in Pennsylvania, Motive Remains Unclear

A woman’s body was found by a gas line worker laying on State Route 51 in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, with two gunshot wounds in the head. Authorities identified the victim as Sharon Benyo, 46, found dead on Wednesday. Police officers have few leads to the identity of the offender.

Local resident John Westley Johnson Jr., 68, was detained on Saturday as investigators were able to gather enough evidence to charge him with homicide, WTAE Action News reported.  According to authorities, they apprehended Johnson at his residence without incident. Meanwhile, officers did not elaborate on the claimed reason.

Benyo Has Been Associated With Alcoholism And Imprisonment

The motive of Johnson Jr. for shooting Benyo has been left unknown. Their speculation traced the transparent 2018 interview of Benyo with The Beaver County Times about her alcohol addiction and DUI case. She referred to her DUI arrest as a miracle and claimed she used imprisonment as a chance and push to change her life.

Benyo recalls she didn’t look at her behavior or what they were causing, the unmanageability, how she was influencing others in life, or her decisions and how they were hurting others. As she used to think that the only person she was hurting was herself, so tended not to care mind. Her alcoholism led her to be impulsive as to getting the next drink, regardless of how she obtained it.

In 2019, she was charged with, among other things, biting a jail guard in the arm. On Wednesday, Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier stated that she had been released from prison around three weeks prior. Benyo was known to them as both a victim and a defendant in Beaver County, and the underlying issue is that the is a young lady who most likely died terribly, and they want to find out who is to blame, Lozier stated.

Benyo’s Ex-Husband Demanded Justice

On Thursday, Benyo’s ex-husband, attorney Gerald Benyo, demanded that the killer be brought to justice. Although he hadn’t spoken to her ex-wife in over three years, knowing that she had been slain and abandoned in a field wounded him greatly, he wrote in the Beaver Countyian. While he acknowledged her alcoholism, he stressed her ongoing efforts to improve.

Sharon Benyo was last seen on Sunday, according to Lozier. She was found dead just weeks after being released from prison. It wasn’t clear where she resided or what she had been up to. According to online records, Johnson was denied bail on Sunday for criminal homicide and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
