On their 2022 bingo card, does anyone else has a “Good Guy Doll with Washboard Abs”? … No one? Only us? Weird. The third episode of Chucky’s season 2 on SYFY and USA Network is now available. This week, the Nica-Tiffany storyline took a second seat to the events at Incarnate Lord as the blockbuster show’s narrative focus.
The Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) dispatched to conduct reconnaissance at the school has been discovered by Jake (Zackary Arthur), Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind), Devon (Björgvin Arnarson), and series newcomer Nadine (Bella Higginbotham). They are curious about who sent him and how many Good Guy dolls were spared from Andy Barclay’s (Alex Vincent) season-opening collision. But if authorities believe routine questioning will help with the Charles Lee Ray, they are in for a surprise. Our protagonists will need to think outside the box if they want to get the solutions.
Jake cannot give Father Bryce (Devon Sawa) the doll since Chucky is chained and gagged in Lexy and Nadine’s room and the priest wants Jake to confess his sins. Charles Lee Ray, who is being held hostage upstairs, is refusing to reveal any information despite the danger of death looming over his fake head. Devon pretends to be ill to keep an eye on the murderer, despite thinking this is a complete waste of time and could damage other people. When the doll starts making fun of him and bringing up the fact that he killed Devon’s mother, he almost kills Chucky.
Instead of threatening their prisoner, the group adopts a new strategy: they will bombard Chucky with violent images to rewire his brain in the manner of A Clockwork Orange until the thought of killing sickens him. You won’t believe this, but it does. The doll throws up his own violent tendencies in addition to, well, actual vomit. Obviously speaking metaphorically. Now, Chucky is a different man—or doll, to be more precise. We never imagined we’d be using words like “kind” and “courteous” to describe the homicidal mascot of the Child’s Play series, not to mention “kind of adorable.” But, hey, everything is new at first.
The only issue at this point is that Chucky knows nothing because the brainwashing was carried out so successfully. Devon urges Jake to kill the monster once more, but Jake declines, expressing his remorse over Gary’s passing in the Season 2 opener. He thinks that forgiving Chucky first is the only way he can forgive himself. Father Bryce, a priest in the Catholic Church, sneakily sees the two sharing a delicate kiss and is offended. Instead of confronting them directly, the priest decides to punish Devon for Jake’s theft by ordering the youngster to clean a number of sacred items in the chapel.
When the quantity of prescription medications she stole from her mother begins to run low, Lexy abandons her duty of making sure Chucky doesn’t escape the room. If she doesn’t acknowledge Trevor (Jordan Kronis) as the boss, he threatens to make her life a living nightmare, but Lexy puts the jerk in his place. A fleeting triumphant moment before a withdrawal-induced downward spiral. Lexy confides in Nadine just as she seems to be about to go insane, and for a moment, Nadine puts aside her eccentric character to offer support and sympathy.
Our heroes are unaware that a brand-new Chucky doll has been sent to the school, which causes it to go on a homicidal rampage right away. First up is the drunken Father O’Malley who is strangled to death in the confessional with Nadine by his own rosary beads. To make matters worse, this new Chucky mimics O’Malley’s Irish accent and orders the young woman to say an excessive 400 Hail Marys in order to atone for her misdeeds.
At the same moment, the submissive Chucky sneaks out of Lexy and Nadine’s room and makes his way to Bryce’s office, clearing Jake and Devon of any wrongdoing. Trevor enters Lexy and Nadine’s room covertly in an attempt to frame the former by smuggling cocaine into Lexy’s desk drawer. When the new Chucky on the block appears and beats the ex-bully to a bloody pulp, things don’t go as planned. Because of the enormous gaping wound in his torso, Trevor does not survive the incident and is expelled from the room. You’ll quickly understand why.
Returning to the chamber, Lexy and the others are able to effectively conceal the body from Sister Ruth’s routine inspection. Ruth is scared away by Nadine’s alarming rant about flesh-eating bacteria and brain-eating amoebas, earning her this week’s MVP award.
