Several charges have been filed against a man after the public authorities claim he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman who mistook him for a ride-share driver. Police reported on Monday that a Tennessee man was arrested in connection with the kidnapping and rape of a woman who mistakenly got into his pickup vehicle in downtown Nashville, thinking he was a ride-share driver.
The Metro Nashville Police Department identified Randall C. Johnson, 49 years old, as the man who picked up the woman and her male friend after they left a downtown pub at 2:45 a.m. on May 24. After the two got into Johnson’s black Chevy pickup truck by mistake, he drove them to a short-term rental on 9th Avenue North, according to a news release issued at the time of the incident.

The Victim And Her Companion Were Drunk
It was reported that the victim and the man who was with her were under the influence of alcohol when they climbed into Johnson’s pickup vehicle after leaving the bar hours before sunrise.

As soon as the male companion stepped out of the pickup truck and attempted to rescue the victim from the car, police say Johnson sped away with the woman who was still left inside the vehicle. At the time, police stated that the victim reported that the suspect drove her to a field right about thirty minutes away and sexually assaulted her before driving back to Nashville, where he dumped her off.
Suspect Was Apprehended Months After The Incident
After months of investigation, police were able to identify Randall C. Johnson as the suspect owing to a piece of shared information from a member of the general public, according to FOX17 Nashville.
Multiple charges against Johnson have been filed against him, including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. It is unclear when Johnson will be summoned to appear in court.
