R Kelly victim Azriel Clary claims she lied about everything in her 2019 interview with Gayle King after the accused R&B singer instructed her on how to answer questions.
Clary, one of several women who testified against R Kelly, is speaking out again about the abuse she endured at the singer’s hands. Kelly was convicted this week on nine charges, five of which were related to crimes perpetrated against Clary.
The morning show then played footage of an enraged Clary, 21, from her first appearance on the show in March of 2019. She exclaimed she was there not to discuss her personal life, and she would never disclose with anyone what she does in or out of the bedroom. At that time, she had been living with R Kelly for about five years, considered herself his girlfriend, and was a staunch supporter of her lover, believing the sexual assault charges against him were false.

However, Clary revealed to King a different story on Wednesday, when she was questioned for the first time since testifying against her ex-lover in court, claiming that their relationship was abusive. Kelly, according to her, was quite skilled at manipulating the situation. It had become quite regular for them to live in their current circumstances, and she needed to break free of that in order to recognize that it was not normal, Clary added.

Assaults Began When She Was 17 Years Old
She stated that the assaults began while she was only 17 years old and that the R&B artist sexually and physically mistreated her, even coercing her into having an abortion. Clary said that she normalized the abuse because she witnessed other older women, as well as Kelly’s assistants, workers, and security team, experience similar abuse and failing to report it. Kelly, she claimed, had four other women while the two were together.

Kelly was found guilty on all nine charges of racketeering and sex trafficking by a federal jury on Monday after prosecutors accused him of using his fame for a quarter-century to entice women and underage girls into his circle for sex. After nine hours of deliberation and a six-week trial, including gruesome testimony, a jury of seven men and five women reached the verdict. He faces up to 100 years in jail for racketeering and ten years for each sex trafficking conviction. The sentencing will take place on May 4, 2022.
Kelly had remained in detention since October 2019, when he was denied bail in his New York City case.
