Three teen boys have been accused by Chicago police of participating in a string of armed robberies on the West and South sides.
The boys, ages 15, 16, and 17, are charged with robbery. Between May 20 and June 10, four persons were held at gunpoint. The boys allegedly approached the victim in each robbery. And demanded their belongings, which included cash, telephones, and jewellery.
Community Urged to Assist Chicago Police in Ongoing Investigation
On June 10, the youngsters were apprehended by a police officer. They appeared to match the descriptions of the robbery suspects. Also they were arrested and charged with armed robbery. Also aggravated battery and unauthorised use of a weapon.
The children are being detained at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Centre. On June 20, they are expected to appear in court.
The robberies are still being investigated by police. And they are requesting that anyone with knowledge come forward.
The robberies took place in the following locations:
- 20th of May: 4400 block of West 111th Street
- 23rd of May: 4700 block of South Western Avenue
- 27th of May: 4800 block of South State Street
- 10th of June: 4700 block of South Halsted Street
Residents are being advised by the police to be wary of their surroundings. In addition, any suspicious activities should be reported to the police.
The robberies serve as a reminder of the city’s widespread gun violence. Over 2,500 shootings occurred in the city in 2022, resulting in over 300 deaths.
