After a courageous battle with pancreas illness, long NBA official Tony Brown passed away today, accompanied by his colleagues, family, as well as fellow officials. He was aged 55.

Brown served as an NBA staff judge for 20 years, judging 1,110 regular-season games. The 2019–20 campaign, which ended in Walt Disney World within the NBA bubble, has also seen him work 35 playoff games and participate in his NBA Finals debut.

The tragic news has left a number of NBA stars distraught, including Jayson Tatum and LeBron James, who said they would regret seeing Brown play. “Tony, be at ease. Excellent judge, but great dude!” via Twitter, James said.
In honor of Brown’s referee number, officials again for the Bucks vs Sixers game on Thursday were sporting purple bracelets that say “6 STRONG.”
