A missing Princeton student Misrach Ewunetie was discovered dead

Prosecutors say the body of missing Princeton University undergrad Misrach Ewunetie was discovered Thursday, about a week after she went missing near the residence hall where she lived. Around 1 p.m., a campus employee found Ewunetie’s body behind tennis courts outside of campus, near a services facility about a half mile from her dorm, according to Mercer County prosecutors. According to law enforcement sources, the region was relatively remote and confined to authorized vehicles, close to where personnel had been searching in recent days.

Who is Misrach Ewunetie?

Ewunetie was a junior at the Ivy League school pursuing a sociology degree with a certificate in computer applications. She recently interned at McKinsey & Company and Bank of America and attended Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School in Cleveland, Ohio. Ewunetie was also a 2021 LEDA Career Fellow who volunteered for years at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank in her native state. She was the valedictorian of her high school class and a full-ride student at Princeton.

What Hapenned to Misrach Ewunetie?

Misrach Ewunetie, an undergraduate student, was discovered dead on campus after going missing on Oct. 14, according to the county prosecutor’s office. Ewunetie, scheduled to graduate in 2024, was found by a facilities employee behind the school’s tennis courts at 1 p.m. Thursday. An autopsy will be performed to identify her cause of death, but “there were no visible signs of injury, and her death does not appear suspicious or criminal in nature,” according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey.

Who saw Misrach Ewunetie Before Vanishing?

Ewunetie was last seen near Scully Hall, a college dormitory building, at 3 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14. Her family phoned the school’s public safety department on Sunday, stating they hadn’t heard from her in days and requesting a wellness check. On Monday, the agency issued a missing person notice and heightened law enforcement presence at the school. As the hunt continued, helicopters and drones circled the area.

What does the Investigation Portray?

According to two sources with intimate knowledge of the investigation, there is no preliminary evidence of wrongdoing. Prosecutors confirmed that Ewunetie had no proof of harm and that her death did not appear suspicious or criminal. The official medical examiner will perform an autopsy formality to identify the cause and manner of death. Earlier Thursday, campus safety warned students that more drones, helicopters, and watercraft would be seen searching university grounds for Ewunetie. Gov. Phil Murphy weighed in on the matter hours before the shocking discovery, stating he had spoken with many law enforcement officers at various levels of government.

School Management Feels Sorry for Misrach Ewunetie Death:

An email sent to on-campus students claimed that Ewunetie’s family and friends hadn’t heard from her in days. Her family became concerned when she did not answer messages, which was unusual for her, and reported her missing to university officials on Sunday. “This is a gut-wrenching feeling of being lost with no answers. And for every question we ask and every response we seek, we receive more questions than answers, “Universe Ewunetie, her brother, stated before her body was discovered. “She has a kind soul, as though she is the most compassionate person you’ve ever met… She’s the last person I’d expect to disappear.”

“Misrach’s death is an unimaginable sorrow,” remarked Princeton Vice President W. Rochelle Calhoun. Following the unfortunate discovery of Ewunetie’s body, Princeton University’s Vice President for Campus Life, W. Rochelle Calhoun, wrote to students and employees, saying in part: “Misrach’s death is a heinous issue. Our deep thoughts are with Misrach’s family, friends, and others who knew and loved her.” The university also invited students, faculty, and staff affected by the terrible news to seek assistance, advice, and counseling.
