About Baltimore Bridge

The Francis Scott Key Bridge, which spans the Patapsco River 1.6 miles, is historically notable since it was here that Francis Scott Key composed “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the national anthem of the United States, in 1814.

Constructed over a period of five years and inaugurated in 1977, the bridge can handle over 1.3 million automobiles every year, playing a crucial role in the I-695 freeway, which is also referred to as the Baltimore Beltway.
