“In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon” is an unapologetic celebration of musical genius that is best appreciated while looking back, and it is as much about the singer-songwriter’s life then as it is today. Although director Alex Gibney spends a bit too much time on Simon today—the film runs for three and a half hours—it is still a worthy homage to a gifted man who, to paraphrase his song, “went looking for America” and was found by both the country and the globe.
In Restless Dreams
Paul Simon’s life and career are chronicled in “In Restless Dreams,” which also shows how the singer-songwriter recorded his most recent album, “Seven Psalms,” while experiencing an abrupt loss of hearing in one ear. Simon said, “That’s returned to a sufficient degree that I feel comfortable singing, playing guitar, and picking up a few other instruments.” But at the moment, he was truly “dispirited” and “thrown off” by it, which made the formerly easy and “effortless” process much more difficult.
However, “after a while, I thought, perhaps it wasn’t meant to be easy and wonderful all the time. Perhaps you should consider the possibility of an obstacle. Perhaps that is a good thing.
Paul Simon shares major health update
Paul Simon, who experienced hearing loss in his left ear back in 2023, gave his fans a significant health update. The “Graceland” singer had the sudden-onset illness while recording “Seven Psalms,” his fifteenth solo album.
The 82-year-old music legend said that the illness had gone undiagnosed by medical professionals, and he finally started to come to terms with the possibility that he would never perform again. The singer now claims that his hearing has sufficiently improved for him to be able to sing and play instruments “comfortably.”
