Ron DeSantis began his military career by joining the United States Navy in 2004. He earned the rank of lieutenant and served as legal advisor to SEAL Team One. His assignments included deployment to Joint Task Force Guantanamo in 2006 and deployment to Iraq in 2007.
In the 2022 gubernatorial election, he scored a significant victory over Charlie Crist, winning by a margin of 19.4 percentage points. This is the largest margin of victory in a Florida gubernatorial election in the last 40 years.
On May 24, 2023, Ron DeSantis announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for US President. Notably, he has been actively serving as governor while running his presidential campaign. DeSantis is also an author, with two books published: “Dreams from Our Founding Fathers”, released before his first congressional campaign in 2011, and “The Courage to Be Free”, published in 2023.
