James Kottak was a well-known American drummer. He was well-recognized for his work with the German hard rock band Scorpions, which he joined in 1996.
In 2016, he was let go from the band after being the longtime drummer. Kottak was also there with Kingdom Come from the beginning, playing drums from 1987 to 1989 and again from 2018 until his death in 2024.
He also had his own band called Kottak, better known as Krunke. In addition, he also played for other bands such as Montrose, Warrant, Wild Horses, McAuley Schenker Group, and Buster Brown.

“Very sad news … our dear friend and Drummer for 20 years James Kottak has passed at the age of 61,” the band wrote alongside a black-and-white image of Kottak. “James was a wonderful human being , a great musician and loving family man … he was our Brother from another Mother and will be truly missed . … Rock ‘n Roll Forever. RIP James.”
