Selvam entered the 15th Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu by running as a candidate on behalf of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly constituency in 2016 and winning.

Former DMK MLA and DMK Head Office Secretary GK Selvam has passed away due to ill health. He was undergoing treatment at Borur Hospital when he died. KU Selvam served as the head office secretary in the DMK and had strong relations with senior party leaders, including DMK chief Stalin.

Ku Ka Selvam career
Selvam began his political journey under the guidance of former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran, being a devoted follower. However, after the demise of MGR, Selvam distanced himself from the AIADMK and joined the DMK in 1997. Since then, Selvam actively participated in DMK activities and worked closely with Stalin’s leadership in the Thousand Lights constituency.
Between 1996 and 2011, Stalin served as the MLA of the Thousand Lights constituency. After shifting his constituency to Kolathur, Hasan Mohammed Jinnah unsuccessfully contested the 2011 election against former minister B Valaramathi. In 2016, Selvam emerged victorious against Valaramathi in the same constituency.
However, in 2020, just before the 2021 assembly elections, Selvam switched allegiance to the BJP. Despite her confidence of securing the Thousand Lights constituency seat in 2021, the saffron party handed the seat to actor-turned-politician Khushboo, who ultimately lost to DMK’s N Ezhilan. Disappointed, Selvam returned to the DMK and was appointed as the headquarters secretary.
