Steven Van Zandt formed his own band, Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul, after marrying his wife, Maureen Santoro.
He became involved in political activism and wrote the song ‘Sun City’ in 1985 to protest South Africa’s apartheid system.
Later, in the late ’90s, Bruce Springsteen asked Van Zandt to rejoin the E Street Band, but he couldn’t because he was already committed to something else. David Chase, a producer and director, approached him about playing the lead role in ‘The Sopranos.’ Despite HBO’s reservations, Van Zandt accepted the challenge. He played Silvio Dante, the manager of the Bada Bing Club, despite not getting the lead role.
