Moderna’s Chief Medical Officer Paul Burton released a statement against their vaccine creator cloud roll out a reformulated vaccine against then-new strain named omicron variant this coming 2022.

Moderna is Making a Vaccine for Omicron Early Next Year

The American pharmaceutical firm Moderna, one of the biggest makers of vaccines against the Covid-19, said that they could reformulate a vaccine against the omicron variant of Covid-19 in early 2022. Paul Burton, the chief medical officer of Moderna said during an interview on a BBC’s Andrew Marr Show “We should know about the ability of the current vaccine to protect the next couple of weeks, but the remarkable thing about the MRNA vaccines, Moderna platform is that we can move fast,” he said.

The modern company might be ready in 2022 for the Omicron vaccine. Omicron is a new strain that the World Health Organization has been classified as a “variant of concern” due to its mutations could lead to increased antibody resistance and transmissibility, which could limit the effectiveness of existing COVID-19 vaccines. Moreover, the Omicron variant is a lot more contagious, more virulent, or more skilled at evading public health measures, vaccines, and therapeutics.

Furthermore, Moderna’s vaccine makers are already starting to mobilize hundreds of workers starting early Thursday morning, to start gathering data for the new variant, the company said in a statement. In addition, Burton also cited that the current vaccines might provide some protection, depending on how long ago a person was vaccinated. The Moderna company still urges people to get vaccinated and afterward get a booster if eligible.

The Omicron Variant has Begun to Spread Globally

The Omicron Variant was first detected in South Africa that is now spreading around the globe. In other countries, there were 13 cases detected in the Netherlands and two each in Denmark and Australia, as well as the other countries, are already imposing travel restrictions on another country that has a high number of Omicron cases detected to try to stop the fast transmission of the new variant. Furthermore, other countries are implementing a total lockdown to restrain the omicron variant.
