Increase Of 27 Percent
According to Investopedia, there are significant differences in SNAP benefits by state because of the presence of local SNAP offices, the method of calculating benefits, and regional economic conditions. The Programs’ informal names and average benefits per household are two examples of this.
On October 1, the Colorado Department of Human Services announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has updated the Thrifty Food Plan to take into account the rising costs of the American diet today. Starting on October 1, households receiving SNAP benefits will see an increase in their regular, non-pandemic benefits.
More than 42 million Americans will receive a 27 percent increase in their food stamp benefits, making this the largest food stamp benefit increase in history, according to CBSN. SNAP benefits are based on an individual’s or family’s income, the size of the household, and various other expenses, such as transportation costs.

A Delay Of Benefits
However, it took longer than expected for Denver Human Services to recertify existing SNAP benefits. According to News 9, one of Denver Human Services’ spokespeople said they are working hard to keep up with demand and listed two reasons for the delay. There is a shortage of workers, with many open positions and a rise in the use of SNAP.
Low-wage workers, many of whom have irregular work schedules and no benefits, rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to help them eat a nutritious diet. Receivers typically hold the nation’s lowest-paying jobs, which shouldn’t come as a surprise.
The Denver DHS wrote that– their division had seen an increase of 19 percent since August, which is a 5.2 percent increase in SNAP applications since August of this year when the pandemic began.
