British Man And Fell Runner Darren Kay Missing In Madeira

According to his relatives, a British guy went missing while running alone on Madeira’s island. Fell runner Darren Kay, 52, was on vacation with his partner in the village of Calheta on Sunday when they went on a two-hour run together. According to his brother, Mr Kay, from Sedbergh in Cumbria, opted to go it alone and never returned. Jonny Kay stated that his family was concerned and was flying to the island to help with the search.

Jonny Kay stated that his family was concerned and was flying to the island to help with the search. Mr Kay had promised his partner that he would run alone for another 30 minutes, but he had not been seen. “She was just waiting for him, and he never returned,” Mr Kay’s brother explained. Mr Kay’s partner reported him missing to local authorities, who assumed a land and sea search was underway.

What Hapenned to Darren Kay?

Mr Kay’s brother stated that the family didn’t have much information, but that stormy weather and strong tides prevented some areas’ searches. He said he hoped to persuade people on the island to join the search but did not know “how realistic that is”. “Any resident or tourist who spotted Darren running alone on Sunday afternoon should come forward to the police so his last whereabouts can be established,” he added. Mr Kay, from Bolton, has been running for about 20 years and is well-known in the fell running world.

Darren Kay’s Brother Statement:

According to his brother, he and his partner were “serious” about the sport, and Mr Kay had competed for England and ran with Calder Valley Fell Runners. Mr Kay’s parents flew out to the Portuguese island on Monday, but his brother had to wait for a delayed flight from Manchester on Tuesday. “That’s the annoyance of sitting here all day because it’s a day we could have spent looking,” he explained.
