The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said on Tuesday, November 29, that police are investigating a fatal motorcycle and car incident in Acton on October 31. Philip Keyes, 64, of Acton, died barely a few weeks after the accident. Around lunchtime, Keyes was riding his motorcycle down Great Road when he collided with an 82-year-old Chelmsford woman driving in the opposite direction in a Subaru, according to authorities. Keyes was airlifted to Boston Medical Center, where he died on November 16 from his injuries. According to the prosecutor’s office, the Subaru driver remained on the scene and assisted authorities. On Saturday, November 19, he will receive an award during NEMBA’s 35th-anniversary celebration at Highland Mountain Bike Park in Northfield. According to Acton police, the accident investigation is underway.

Philip was a loving father to his two daughters, a dedicated husband to his late wife of 33 years, and a devoted companion to his partner, with whom he had discovered new delight in the last four years. Philip was a passionate and adventurous man who loved to travel and interact with nature by riding, trekking, or simply grilling outside. Philip found his purpose as Executive Director of the Mountain Bike Association, where he worked for 26 years. He was instrumental in NEMBA’s growth into one of the nation’s leading trail advocacy and mountain biking organisations. He was elected into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame and is renowned for his relentless land advocacy efforts.
