For the longest time, from 1965 until 2004, Akira Nagai, a Japanese businessman, was one of Sega’s managing directors and spokesperson. Japan is his birthplace. He remained in this position as the company grew, merged, and changed, progressing from selling jukeboxes to eventually producing its works and designing and managing directly operated amusement facilities. Nagai began his career as a representative in the 1970s; after CSK completed its acquisition of Sega from Gulf+Western in July 1984, he was promoted to general manager of the sales and marketing divisions.
