Joseph “Joe” Gubernick, 88, was a longstanding executive with Estee Lauder Cos. The reason was not immediately known, but Lauder said in a statement that Gubernick died peacefully at his home in Pine Plains, New York, with his family by his side. Gubernick held various positions at Estée Lauder, mainly in research and development. He is responsible for creating popular skincare products such as Estée Lauder’s Night Repair and Fruition, as well as Clinique’s Turnaround Cream.

Gubernick founded In Ventures after leaving Lauder. He was most recently the lead adviser to Dr. Xi Huang’s I-On Skincare, which is touted to have a proprietary technology that eliminates and neutralizes various kinds of iron in the skin.

His charisma, warmth, compassion, and unique sense of humor, were contagious and will be sorely missed.” Donations can be given in Gubernick’s honor to Hudson Valley Hospice.
“We lost a brilliant genius who had such a zest for life, for scientific, creative activities, and for improving skin product advantages for all people all over the world,” said Arnold Zimmerman, president of Catchers Mitt and director of Ion Skincare. “I shall miss his humor, charisma, strength, and philanthropy to benefit children all across the world,” he said. A memorial event is planned for the spring, according to a LinkedIn post from Harvey Gedeon, who worked with Gubernick and resigned from Lauder in 2011. Hudson Valley Hospice accepts donations.
