19-Year-Old Miya Marcano’s Body Found Dead Near Orlando’s Apartment Weeks After Reported Missing

Authorities claimed they have discovered the body of a missing Florida college student in a forested area outside an apartment building who went missing a week ago, according to Orange County Sheriff John Mina on Saturday. The major suspect is a maintenance man who entered her apartment without permission the day she vanished and later killed himself.

Victim Went Missing The Same Day Maintenance Man Accessed Her Residence

Miya Marcano, 19-year-old went missing on the same day a maintenance man inappropriately used a master key to access her residence. Her family reported her missing after she missed a flight home to South Florida on September 24. After days of searching, authorities discovered the corpse around 10:45 a.m. Saturday near Tymber Skan apartments. Marcano was working at the Arden Villa apartment complex, where she lived and worked.

According to John Mina, Armando Caballero, 27, a maintenance worker at the apartment complex where Marcano lived and worked is the primary person of interest. Caballero appears to have committed suicide; his body was discovered three days after Marcano was last seen.

Caballero’s romantic proposals had been “turned down” on numerous occasions by Marcano. Detectives spoke with Caballero after the Valencia College student went missing, but there was insufficient evidence to hold him at the time. They secured an arrest warrant for him after discovering he had entered her residence before to her disappearance. His body was later discovered inside a garage.

Sheriff Mina said Caballero’s cellphone records led investigators to the apartment complex near where Marcano was recovered and indicated he was there for about 20 minutes the night she was reported missing. Caballero had previously lived in the same apartment complex.

Caballero Had One Prior Arrest

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Caballero had one prior arrest in 2013 for using a destructive device that caused property damage and discharging a weapon on school property.

As per arrest record, Polk County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Warner University campus after a report of a bomb going off inside a dorm. The explosion was revealed to be a toilet bowl cleanser mixture contained within a plastic drink bottle. According to the investigation, Caballero admitted to using the improvised device as a prank on other dorm inmates. Nobody was hurt.

Mina declined to comment on the cause of the death of body discovered Saturday morning. However, he claimed it is fair to conclude Armando Caballero is guilty for the crime, and there is no other person or persons that they are looking for in the case.
