A player in the state of New Jersey was able to match all six numbers in the Mega Millions drawing on Tuesday night, resulting in the jackpot winner and a whooping $1.13 billion. According to a source in USA Today, Mega Millions’ current jackpot has a basic sum of $20 million and a $9.5 million cash option, following the recent historic win.
Largest jackpot victory in the history
Numbers 7, 11, 22, 29, 38, and the gold Mega Ball 4 were drawn. The winning ticket was sold at ShopRite Wines & Spirits of Neptune, a Jersey Shore establishment, according to state lottery authorities. Officials from the New Jersey Lottery said it was the largest jackpot victory in the history of the state.
According to lottery officials during a news conference on Wednesday, the owner of the winning ticket has not yet stepped forward to claim the prize. Governor Phil Murphy enacted a law in 2020 allowing lottery winners in New Jersey to maintain their anonymity. Lottery winners in 18 states are allowed to maintain their anonymity, including New Jersey.
Lottery Prize
In the history of the US lottery, this prize is the ninth largest.
An annuity will be used to pay out the $1.13 billion jackpot to the winner, who will receive an initial payment and 29 subsequent annual payments. Most winners opt for the $537.5 million cash reward.
The projected $865 million Powerball jackpot will be up for grabs in the next big US lottery drawing on Wednesday night. It has been 36 drawings without a winner since New Year’s Day, when nobody has won the prize.
Mega Millions is played in the US Virgin Islands, Washington, DC, and 45 other states. In addition to those states, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and Washington, DC also host Powerball games.
