Charles Osgood was born on 8 January 1933 in New York, New York, United States. Charles Osgood’s parents were Mary Osgood and Charles Osgood Wood II.
Charles Osgood did his studies at St. Cecilia High School in Englewood, New Jersey, and at Fordham University in 1954.
Charles Osgood was a married man. Charles Osgood wife was Jeanne Crafton. Charles Osgood’s first wife was Theresa Audette.
Charles Osgood has five children- Emily Osgood, Winston Osgood, Annie Osgood, Kathleen Osgood, and Jamie Osgood.
In April 1962, the company that owned WGMS, called RKO General, moved Osgood to Hartford, Connecticut. They also gave him his first TV job as boss of Channel 18, then known as WHCT (now WUVN).
Osgood then worked as a reporter and news anchor at WCBS. Around August 1967, he became the main man on the morning show at WCBS, right after he started learning about the news. Osgood also hosted “The Osgood File” on radio, which people could hear four times each weekday morning on stations across the country.
In 1971, Osgood joined CBS News on TV. He played many different roles there. From 1981 to 1987, he was the main man on the CBS Sunday Night News. Then, he co-hosted CBS Morning News and frequently read the news on CBS This Morning from 1987 to 1992.
Occasionally, he also served as the main man on the CBS Afternoon News and CBS Evening News with Dan Rather.
