Robert and Alice Reid welcomed Reid into the world on June 15, 1971, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was educated at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School while growing up in Cambridge. He also became passionate about books, theater, and music. In 1993 he graduated from Harvard University. Holding a degree in American and English language and literature. After that, he worked as a writer, editor, and journalist. He is also employed by several magazines, including The New Yorker, The Boston Globe, and The Atlantic.
