Laura Lynch founded the Dallas Dixie Chicks in 1988 with Robin Lynn Macy and sisters Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire. Which was later changed to the name Chicks.
The band released 2 albums- first ‘Thank Heavens for Dale Evans’ (1990) and second ‘Little Ol’ Cowgirl’ (1992).
In 1992, Laura described her band’s music as ‘cowgirl music’ in an interview with National Public Radio.
Laura Lynch Sadi- “Our brand of cowgirl music is a mixture of old-time country music, bluegrass music, acoustic.”
“We all sing three-part and four-part harmony. We throw in some instrumentals, some country swing. That’s our brand of cowgirl music.”
In 1992, Robin Lynn Macy left the band. In 1993, the remaining three band members released ‘Shouldn’t A Told You That’ and also gained popularity. That same year, she performed at the inauguration of President Bill Clinton.
In 1995, Laura Lynch was kicked out of the band and replaced by Natalie Maines.
In 1996, Maguire told The Fort Worth Star-Telegram: “We were facing going on our seventh year, we were starting to re-evaluate things.”
“We were making a future decision.”
She said- “What do we want to do in the future, where do we want to be in five years? I don’t think Laura really saw herself on the road five years from now.”
Chicks said- “Laura had a gift for design, a love of all things Texas and was instrumental in the early success of the band.”
“Her undeniable talents helped propel us beyond busking on street corners to stages all across Texas and the mid-West.”
