Las Vegas Raiders safety Roderick Teamer was arrested on a DUI charge Saturday night and will not play in the Raiders’ Week 12 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the team announced Sunday.
Mr Cheamer, 26, was pulled over for speeding around 2 am on Sunday and his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was measured at 0.18, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08. He was then booked into the Clark County Detention Center and released Sunday morning.
The Raiders released a statement Sunday saying they are “aware of the incident involving Roderick Teamer last night. The club is currently gathering further information and has no further comment at this time. He took part in training all week.
The 26-year-old safety, who hasn’t played since hurting his hamstring in Week 6 against the New England Patriots, previously received a four-game suspension in 2020 for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Besides the DUI charge, Teamer may also confront disciplinary measures from the NFL, as the league prohibits players from operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This incident marks the second time a Raiders player has been arrested for drunk driving this year. In August, defensive end Clelin Ferrell was stopped and arrested for speeding but was later released without charge.
The Raiders have been plagued by off-field issues in recent years.In addition to DUI arrests, the team has also worked on several high-profile domestic violence cases.
Teamer’s arrest is just another setback for the Raiders, who are already struggling on the field.The team is 3-7 and has lost four of its last five games.
