How Did Jeffrey Morton Die? Hiker Found Dead After He Gone Missing

On Saturday, the body of a 63-year-old hiker who went missing in Carbon Canyon Regional Park was discovered.

What Happened to Jeffrey Morton?

Authorities revealed on Saturday that a 63-year-old man went missing in Brea’s Carbon Canyon Regional Park and was located dead several hours later. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department tweeted shortly after 5:30 p.m., “The Sheriff’s Department is sorry to report that Jeffrey Morton has been found deceased,” adding that the county coroner’s office was investigating Morton’s death.

How Did Jeffrey Morton Die?

Jeffrey Paul Morton left his Yorba Linda home at 2:30 a.m. Friday for a hike. He usually got home around 6 a.m., according to the investigators. According to the Sheriff’s Department, Morton’s automobile, a white 2004 Acura MDX, was recovered at Brea Hills Drive and Carbon Canyon Road intersection, immediately across the street from the park. Authorities said on Friday that he lacked a cell phone and that his trip route was unknown.

“Due to the circumstances, Jeffery is being treated as a vital missing person,” it states. The Brea Fire Department responded to a call about Morton on Friday afternoon and began a rescue effort. Crews explored the area’s hills, but aircraft coverage was limited due to poor visibility, making attempts difficult. The Sheriff’s Department also asked for the public’s help and asked anyone with information to call (714) 647-7000. Unfortunately, search and rescue workers discovered Jeffrey deceased early Saturday evening. Police were investigating the circumstances of his death.
