The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office has identified the 24-year-old officer found shot to death in his vehicle on Thursday morning in northwest Atlanta. According to the sheriff’s office, Deputy James Thomas died while not on duty on Thursday morning at about 4:30 a.m. He was recruited from a law enforcement organisation south of Atlanta by Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat, who characterised him as “the life of the party” and a “good spirit.” James Thomas, 24, was slain in the line of duty in Atlanta. A Murrah High School graduate, former Jackson Police Officer, and Army veteran. He was a member of a Black LGBT social club fraternity in Jackson, Mississippi, and Atlanta, Georgia. He was a Fulton County, Georgia, Sheriff Deputy at the time.
What was the Suspect’s Name?
Police are still seeking the gunman. According to authorities, officers were summoned to the scene at about 4:30 a.m. after hearing reports of a person being shot. They found a smashed car with the victim still inside. Atlanta police investigators talked with the driver of a vehicle who had heard gunshots. Police believe the individual is unrelated to the crime and are working with investigators. “The van noticed the victim’s car sort of driving erratically in the centre of the road on Bolton Road,” according to Atlanta police investigator Peter Malecki. They “think they heard gunshots while passing the car.”
It’s unclear if the officer was shot before or after the crash. “At this point, we are uncertain whether the shooter was a pedestrian on foot or if he was perhaps in another automobile,” Malecki said. In this case, the compensation was increased to $30,000. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office is in deep grief at the death of Deputy James Thomas. Early Thursday, he was discovered shot and died in his car on Bolton Rd. Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat recognised Deputy Thomas as an “excellent young guy” who would be greatly missed. Others who talked with 11Alive said Deputy Thomas was very passionate about law enforcement. He joined the agency in August after being recruited from another department due to his exceptional focus and work ethic.
To make matters worse, Deputy Thomas was just 24 years old. Please remember his family and fellow deputies in your prayers. The prize for information on the murder has been raised to $30,000. Anyone with information should call APD or Crime Stoppers. They are asking to make contact with anybody who was in the vicinity of Bolton Road early Thursday and heard or saw anything strange before the shooting.
