He was diagnosed with moyamoya disease, characterised by a narrowing or blocking of a cranial artery. Surgeons reportedly rebuilt a carotid artery with blood vessels from his skull during the bypass surgery. “Hey, they’re going to do this treatment, and he’s going to fight back,'” said Scanlan’s coach Derek Weinke to the source. “‘We don’t know what it’s going to look like on the other side; he’s going to struggle through this,'” he added. Sadly, the boy died on Sunday after suffering more strokes.

Tributes to Cormick Scanlan:

“This is a kid who experienced what we talk about daily,” Weinke explained. “This young man has virtues such as selflessness, hard effort, and integrity.” Scanlan was a member of the NHL team St. Paul Capitals. “The loss of Cormick Scanlan saddens the Capitals. “During his Peewee B1 year, he used his stature and speed to beat defensemen to the net.” Cormick was a Capitals player from his time through his previous two seasons on our Bantam AA team. “On his way past defenders, parents would yell ‘choo choo’ as Cormick surged towards the goal,” it stated.

Cretin-Derham Hall also published a statement describing the tragic kid as an “excellent student” and “brilliant young guy” who “impacted so many.” “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of one of our students, sophomore Cormick Scanlan, on December 25, 2022, as a result of complications from a stroke he experienced earlier this month,” the statement added.

“Please keep Cormick’s family in your prayers, especially his parents, Joe ’94 and Heather, and siblings, Colin, Brynn, and Sloane (5th grade, Holy Spirit),” the school added.

“We are extremely saddened by the loss of Mick, but our faith gives us confidence that he is in the loving arms of Jesus,” school president Frank Miley said.
